Copyright Guidelines

To ensure your poetry video can be successfully uploaded to the Savanna Poets YouTube channel, all submissions must comply with YouTube's copyright policies. Videos that fail these checks cannot be published.

What is Copyright?

Copyright protects original creative works like music, images, and video. As the creator, you own the copyright and control its use.

Your Responsibility

You should only upload content that you personally created or have explicit permission/license to use. This means:

  • Original Content is Best: Create all audio, visuals, and text yourself.

  • No Unauthorized Music: Do not include background music, sound effects, or song lyrics in your video unless you:

    • Composed and recorded the music yourself.

    • Have obtained a direct license from the copyright owner(s) (e.g., the composer, the record label, the publisher).

    • Are using royalty-free music from a reputable source that explicitly grants permission for YouTube use (like the YouTube Audio Library).

  • No Unauthorized Images/Video: Avoid using photos or video clips you didn't create or for which you lack permission (e.g., movie clips, TV shows, online images).

  • "Giving Credit" Isn't Enough: Simply crediting the source does not grant permission. You need explicit consent or a valid license.

Why This Matters

If your video contains copyrighted material, YouTube's automated Content ID system will flag it. This can lead to your video being blocked.

We want all submitted poems to have the chance to be seen and heard! Please follow these copyright guidelines to help us ensure a smooth competition.

If you have any doubts about whether you have the right to use specific content, it is always best to err on the side of caution and do not include it in your submission.

Thank you.
